Educational Talent Search
The Educational Talent Search program is excited to start another year at Travis. Here is some information about the program, our accomplishments from last year, and information about our upcoming events.
About Us
Educational Talent Search (ETS) is at five middle schools and four high schools in Austin ISD and Manor ISD, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and sponsored by Texas State University. The program serves 825 students at the nine schools, with 205 students at Travis High School. Last year, 100% of the Travis ETS seniors graduated from high school, submitted a college application to a four-year university, and completed the FAFSA. The total amount of scholarships that the 38 Travis ETS students received was about $325,000!
Objectives
Last year, 97% of Educational Talent Search underclassmen students were promoted to the next grade level, 99% of our seniors graduated from high school, 94% of seniors graduated on a recommended or distinguished plan, and 85% of our graduated seniors have enrolled in an institution of higher education this school year.
Eligibility
The purpose of the program is to reinforce the school system's efforts in assisting students to reach their academic potential, graduate from high school, and ultimately enroll in a post-secondary institution of their choice. There are four requirements:
1.Students must be a first-generation student (neither parent obtained a bachelor’s degree) and/or from a low- income household.
2.Students must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-resident per federal regulations.
3.Students must have the desire to graduate from high school and pursue higher education.
4.Students must return a completed application to Ms. Flores in the Go Center.
Field Trips
ETS will be visiting 12 universities this year including the University of Houston, Sam Houston State University, Our Lady of the Lake University, the University of North Texas and UT Arlington. We have one overnight trip each semester. We also take career exploration trips, attend cultural awareness events, and participate at student-led conferences.
